Kids Surfing at Ho’okepa

There is a wonderful beach on the eastern shore of Maui where we often go to watch surfing. On this day the waves were pretty big, certainly bigger than anything I’d ever consider going near. But there were a dozen or so young teens having a ball in them. There were no parents around that I could see, and to me what the kids were doing was quite dangerous but obviously, to them, this was just another Saturday on their boards. I’ve cobbled together this video to share the experience with you. Have a look at how the the kid in the first frames gets into the water, watch them surfing, then watch how they get out of the water at the end.  Amazingly skilled. They weren’t finished, by the way, they headed off further south to surf even bigger and more dangerous waves.
I hope you enjoy. Aloha.
